STARC Businesses Foster Self-Reliance

Just as STARC cultivates and nurtures independence in our clients, STARC operates several businesses that generate income to make us less dependent on state and federal funding. At the same time, the businesses provide employment opportunities to many of our clients with disabilities, giving deserving men and women the chance to be productive, tax-paying citizens. STARC participants benefit from skills development and a sense of value and accomplishment as they earn a monthly paycheck.

STARC Commercial Linen Service
STARC Commercial Linen Service is a complete rental and laundry facility that works with government agencies and private businesses throughout New Orleans, the Florida Parishes and southeastern Mississippi. Working in partnership with NISH (National Industries for the Severely Handicapped), we have competitive rates and first-class quality. Plus, the laundry provides something no other linen service can provide—opportunity.

We launder bed and table linens and floor mats. We also rent and deliver a variety of items to the general public, including table linen, bar towels, aprons and chair back covers. Our services are affordable, dependable and totally professional.

Linen service customers include restaurants, hospitals, medical offices, caterers, hotels and government agencies. Along with linen, our customers get the added value of our values: productivity, independence and pride. STARC Linen Service makes a real difference in our community.

STARC Cleaners
STARC Cleaners is a retail dry cleaner and laundry that provides exceptional quality along with opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. After Hurricane Katrina destroyed the well-established Slidell Cleaners, the proprietors went to work for STARC to develop the retail dry cleaning operation that expands on the capability of the STARC Commercial Linen Service.

Located at 40016 Hwy. 190 East in Slidell, STARC Cleaners is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to noon. STARC Cleaners offers free pick-up and delivery.

STARC Art and Greeting Cards
STARC ART is an enrichment program that gives individuals with disabilities a chance to earn money as they enjoy personal growth, self expression and a sense of pride and accomplishment. With support, guidance and instruction, the artists who participate in STARC ART explore their unique artistic talents in a variety of mediums. The completed works are matted, framed or otherwise displayed and sold at various outlets throughout the state. The artwork is also used to make note cards sold in the community.

Better Way Services
Better Way Services is a program that provides vocational training for adults with disabilities at STARC’s Slidell Center. Activities include assembly work, collating and shredding through on-site sheltered workshops as well as training of mobile crews that provide janitorial services and lawn maintenance in the community. Through Better Way Services, STARC handles a variety of contracts from flatware assembly to Mardi Gras bead sorting and sales to maintenance services at area parks and government facilities.
