Programs for All Ages
STARC has programs and services to help individuals
with developmental disabilities lead meaningful, productive
and
fulfilling lives throughout their lives.
At STARC, we believe that people are more alike than different. Our approach
is to integrate our clients into the community as much as possible. With
assistance, many can live and work alongside typical individuals. From
early intervention programs for infants to elderly services for seniors,
STARC provides services to people of all ages.
With great community support, the individuals served through STARC enjoy a
variety of extra-curricular activities that include our annual Starlight Ball,
Special Olympics, bowling league, Slidell Little Theatre, brown bag lunches
in the park, and picnics and parties given by Adams and Reese, the Elks, Rotary,
Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, the St. Tammany Parish Homebuilders and
the Seafood Festival.
Our programs
and services include:
Early intervention program
The early intervention program offers services to eligible infants and toddlers
with developmental delays, from birth to age three. The program provides special
instruction, speech, occupational and physical therapy, support groups, family
counseling, parent workshops and social work.
Noah’s
ARC Children’s
Daycare Services
Noah’s ARC cares for children aged
six weeks to five years. Since the best role models or peers
for developmentally disadvantaged children are typical
children their own age, the center provides care to all children side by
side. Services include early education, therapy and motor
skills development.
Located at 1705 Viola
Street in Mandeville, Noah’s
ARC has 13 classrooms and a highly
skilled staff. The center is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Monday through Friday. Parents have the advantage of a
full week of daycare or the option of only Tuesday/Thursday
or Monday/Wednesday/Friday
sessions.
Adult Daycare Services
Adult daycare services are provided at the STARC Center in Slidell, where people
with developmental disabilities can get full-time assistance during the day.
Individuals are given training in daily living skills
and also participate in a variety of activities, including recreational programs,
vocational training and our STARC ART enrichment
program.
Some of the Center’s
clients participate in our Better
Way Services program with
activities ranging from assembly, collating and sorting work
to training
for janitorial and maintenance services. Others train with a job coach for
supported employment and then go out into the community to work in regular
jobs in fast food, retail, grocery, hospital and government office settings.
STARC Art gives participants a chance to earn money as they enjoy personal
growth, self expression and a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Supported
Employment
STARC's Supported Employment program
enables adults with disabilities to work in a regular
job setting
with the assistance of a job coach. The coach trains
the individual in the skills necessary to perform the job and works with
employers to assure that job requirements are met. Participating
businesses include Burger
King, Papa John’s, TJ Maxx, JC Penney’s, Winn Dixie, Sav-A-Center,
Northshore Regional Medical Center, Southeast Hospical and St. Tammany Parish
Government, among others.
Residential Services
STARC residential services are community homes that allow individuals with
disabilities to live in a family-style environment. The three homes—two
in Slidell and one in Covington—are
supervised 24 hours a day. Support staff provides assistance to ensure residents’ safety,
health and well-being. Residents either work independently in the community
or participate in work/training programs at the STARC Center during the day.
Waiver Services
Waiver services are home and community based services that provide respite
for caregivers of eligible developmentally disabled individuals. Waiver services
include assisting with hygiene, maintaining a safe environment, light housekeeping,
food preparation, leisure skills, day habilitation, employment related training,
supported independent living and community integration. Children's Choice waiver
services are an alternative for families on the Medicaid Waiver waiting list
for children under age 19. These are limited Medicaid
waiver services (under $15,000 annually).
Elderly Services
STARC elderly services are non-medical services to senior citizens with physical
or mental disabilities. Services include grocery shopping and
prescription pick-up/delivery, personal care assistance and light housekeeping,
as well as adult day care. |
