The New Opportunities Waiver (NOW) is available to individuals ages three years and older who meet the following eligibility criteria:

- A diagnosis that meets disability criteria defined by Social Security Administration and medical criteria for level of care determination.
- An approved waiver slot by State of Louisiana.
The services available in the NOW Waiver include:
Individual Family Support-Day and Night (IFS)
IFS services are provided as one-on-one services to individuals living in their homes or with their families. Direct support professionals assist individuals with daily living skills, accessing the community and other related functions as dictated by the Medicaid comprehensive plan of care.
This option allows up to four individuals to share an apartment or home with one staff person on duty (DSP).
Individuals 18 years of age and older, living in their own homes or apartments, receive the support necessary to live in the community-based setting of their choice. Some individuals using this service may receive 24-hour shared supports, including supervised independent living under the NOW Waiver. STARC provides a direct support professional in addition to a waiver case manager/Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP).
Individuals ages 18 and over can receive waiver-funded services, including assistance in developing social and adaptive skills, so they may participate in their community as independently as possible. Day habilitation services focus on socialization with meaningful activities.
So that individuals ages 18 and over may engage in competitive work, STARC’s Supported Employment provides intensive, ongoing supports and follow-along. This service includes activities needed to sustain paid work, including supervision and training as specified on the Comprehensive Plan of Care. STARC also provides an employment specialist and job coach.
